HP Pixel Control for Outstanding Image Quality

At the heart of the HP DesignJet Z6 is HP Pixel Control, HP's advanced imaging pipeline designed to provide precise control over individual colour combinations.

HP Pixel Control helps produce smooth colour transitions, detailed images and accurate output across a wide range of professional applications.

This is particularly important when reproducing:

Photographs
Skin tones
Gradients
Shadows
Detailed landscapes
Architectural renders
Colour maps
Fine graphics

The result is professional output with excellent detail and smooth tonal transitions.

Six HP Vivid Photo Inks

The HP DesignJet Z6 uses a six-colour HP Vivid Photo Ink system engineered for professional graphics and photographic output.

The ink set consists of:

Cyan
Magenta
Yellow
Chromatic Red
Photo Black
Matte Black

The inclusion of Chromatic Red expands the printer's colour capability, helping produce vibrant reds and strong colour reproduction across graphics, photography and presentation applications.

Separate Photo Black and Matte Black inks optimise black reproduction across photographic and matte media.

No Need to Swap Black Inks

The HP DesignJet Z6 incorporates separate channels for Photo Black and Matte Black, eliminating the inconvenience of manually switching between black inks when changing between glossy/photo and matte media.

This provides several advantages:

Faster media changes
Reduced ink waste
Less operator intervention
Greater workflow efficiency
Optimised black density across different media

For businesses regularly switching between photo paper and coated or matte media, this can provide a significant everyday productivity benefit.

Up to 2400 × 1200 Optimised dpi

The HP DesignJet Z6 delivers print resolution of up to 2400 × 1200 optimised dpi, allowing it to reproduce exceptionally fine image and technical detail.

This makes it particularly suitable for applications containing:

Fine photographic detail
Small text
Fine lines
Map labels
Architectural details
Complex GIS information
High-resolution raster images
Detailed graphics

Whether printing a photograph or a technical map, the Z6 is designed to preserve the details that matter.

Designed to Handle Even the Most Complex Files

Professional large-format files can be extremely demanding to process.

High-resolution photography, layered PDFs, GIS maps and complex graphics may contain large amounts of raster and vector information.

The HP DesignJet Z6 is equipped with powerful onboard processing to help handle these demanding jobs efficiently.

It features:

128 GB virtual memory

and

500 GB self-encrypting internal storage

This allows the printer to process complex files internally and helps prevent large jobs from creating unnecessary workflow bottlenecks.

Adobe PostScript 3 & Adobe PDF Print Engine

The HP DesignJet Z6 24-inch includes professional Adobe PostScript 3 and Adobe PDF Print Engine technology.

This is particularly valuable for graphic design, photography, GIS and professional print workflows where PDF files may contain:

Embedded fonts
Transparency
Vector graphics
High-resolution images
Layers
Complex colour information
Mixed raster and vector elements

Native Adobe processing helps provide reliable reproduction of sophisticated PDF files and reduces the risk of unexpected output when handling complex documents.

For print businesses receiving customer-supplied PDFs from different applications, this is an important advantage.

Excellent for GIS & Detailed Maps

Although the DesignJet Z6 is an excellent graphics and photographic printer, it is also particularly strong for GIS and mapping applications.

GIS maps often combine fine text, detailed lines, raster imagery and numerous colours in a single file.

The Z6's high-resolution print system, professional colour capability and powerful file processing make it ideal for producing:

Topographic maps
Cadastral maps
Environmental maps
Geological maps
Mining maps
Utility maps
Urban planning maps
Satellite imagery
Aerial photography
Colour-coded geographic information

Fine details remain clear while the six-colour ink system helps differentiate complex map information.

Professional Photographic Printing

The Z6 is also an excellent choice for professional photographic output.

HP Vivid Photo Inks and HP Pixel Control combine to deliver detailed photographic prints with smooth tonal transitions and strong colour reproduction.

Suitable applications include:

Portrait photography
Wedding photography
Landscape photography
Commercial photography
Architectural photography
Exhibition prints
Portfolio prints
Studio proofs
Photo enlargements

The 24-inch width makes it particularly attractive to photographers and studios wanting professional large-format capability in a relatively compact printer.

Professional Graphics & Posters

The HP DesignJet Z6 can also serve as a versatile in-house graphics production printer.

Businesses can produce:

Promotional posters
Retail graphics
Marketing materials
Presentation boards
Point-of-sale displays
Exhibition graphics
Event posters
Educational displays
Corporate presentations

Bringing this type of printing in-house can reduce outsourcing costs and provide much faster turnaround for time-sensitive graphics.

Borderless Printing

For supported media sizes and applications, the HP DesignJet Z6 provides borderless printing capability, allowing graphics and photographs to be produced without unwanted white margins.

This is particularly useful for:

Photographic prints
Posters
Presentation graphics
Display materials
Marketing graphics

It can also reduce the amount of manual trimming required after printing.

Wide Range of Compatible Media

The HP DesignJet Z6 supports a broad range of professional large-format media.

Suitable media categories include:

Photo paper
Gloss photo paper
Satin photo paper
Semi-gloss photo paper
Matte photo paper
Fine art media
Coated paper
Heavyweight coated paper
Super heavyweight matte paper
Bond paper
Backlit media
Polypropylene
Self-adhesive media
Banner and display media
Technical papers

This versatility allows a single Z6 to support photographic, graphics, presentation and technical printing applications.

Automatic Horizontal Cutter

The printer incorporates an automatic horizontal cutter for compatible roll media.

Once a print has been completed, the printer can automatically cut it from the roll, simplifying production and reducing manual finishing.

This is particularly convenient when producing multiple photographs, posters, maps or presentation graphics.

Easy Printing with HP Click

HP Click simplifies large-format printing by allowing users to submit common document and image files through an intuitive interface.

Users can preview jobs before printing, helping identify layout problems before consuming media and ink.

HP Click can help:

Simplify large-format printing
Preview jobs before production
Submit multiple files
Reduce incorrect prints
Reduce wasted media
Improve workflow for occasional users

This makes the Z6 practical for shared environments where not every user is a large-format printing specialist.

Professional Colour Management

Accurate and repeatable colour is essential for photography, graphics and professional presentation work.

The HP DesignJet Z6 incorporates professional colour management capabilities designed to provide consistent output across supported HP media.

This helps users achieve dependable colour from one job to the next, which is particularly important for:

Brand graphics
Photography
Client presentations
Proofing
Maps
Repeat print jobs

Consistent colour helps reduce reprints and provides greater confidence when producing customer-facing work.

Built-In Spectrophotometer

The HP DesignJet Z6 incorporates an HP embedded spectrophotometer for professional colour management.

A spectrophotometer measures printed colour, allowing the printer to calibrate and characterise supported media more accurately.

This provides an important advantage for colour-critical environments because it helps maintain predictable and repeatable colour output.

For photographers, designers and print professionals, built-in colour measurement reduces reliance on separate external colour-calibration equipment for routine printer calibration.

Secure Professional Printing

The HP DesignJet Z6 is designed for networked professional environments and incorporates security features to help protect sensitive files and data.

Security capabilities include technologies such as:

500 GB self-encrypting internal drive
